Compassion What is it ?

The very word comes from the Latin “co suffering” I find that so passionate. The idea of co suffering that feeling of having sympathy and understanding for another human or animal or really any other living or non living thing.

When one breaks down the word ye find the word “Passion” this word too comes from Latin meaning to “ suffer or endure”. While passion is an emotion and action word, it too is the very driving life force that is in all of us.

What does it mean to have compassion for someone or something. For me it means to have patients and understandings. It meant to know that we are all ONE while we are housed in an individual body we are all connected by invisible energies all around us. We fail at times to remember that a single strand of DNA is the same in all of us. It is the tie that bonds and the tie that makes us all human.

What does compassion mean on a site. WELL that means to me that while our ideas might not all be the same and we might not see things in the same LIGHT we can embrace how other’s feel things are. We can take that from them and find a place of common grounds and understandings.

We can agree to disagree and to find the middle ground. Its called PEACE something the World could use more of at times.

What is compassion for other’s well really it is SEEING that we are not all the same on our intellectual levels, and that some have great mental and physical struggles in life and we need at times to maybe stop and say OK here with this individual I NEED to slow things down some and I need to find that place of HOW WOULD I FEEL TO BE THEM to maybe understand them.

To me being on a Spiritual Path is finding that place in us of compassion for other’s on all levels. Patients is a virtue ! A passion burns in all of us….so can COMPASSION !

Excellent post Lynn, I never knew that compassion came from the latin 'co suffering'... That is really meaningful.

Buddha has said that life is suffering, because life is imperfect.

Coping with this life and finding our natural, loving selves is compassion, to me.

to me compassion is at times putting others NEEDS ahead of your own..

it is mutual RESPECT.

believe at all times they are YOU...then would you change your behavior? would you find the compassion???

I do pretty well with this but I at times fall so short of the mark I must hang my head in shame...and then move forward trying to do better the next time I need to find it.

You know the word empathy comes to mind when I think of that. when one has compassion you also need to show love. love sees past flaws and and has the other persons best interest in mind.
