Where did Metaphysics Being ?
The word Metaphysics means the philosophy of being, the part concerned with the study of the nature of being and beings , simply put existence. It is the examinations of the nature of reality, the relationship of Mind, Body and Soul.
The term Metaphysics can be dated to about 300BC and the works of philosopher Aristotle. Aristotle was a Greek philosopher, student of Plato and teacher to Alexander the Great. He is one of the most influential or founders of Western philosophy. He was the first to combine concepts of morality, aesthetics, logic, science and politics, rolled into one Metaphysics. Aristotle’s definition of Metaphysics is the knowledge of immaterial being, or of being in the highest degree of abstraction. He refers to Metaphysics as “first philosophy”.
Metaphysics asks questions : What is space and time ? How does a thing differ form an idea ? As humans are we free to decide in our own fates ? Is there a starting point, or did God truly create all ? It can be said that Metaphysics is the base for all modern Religions to come. Over time this came to one path Metaphysics being of the Mind, Body and Soul, line of thinking. The combining and embracing of science with Religion.
Who Started this Philosophy ?
Can we truly honestly answer this question ? Well we can try….we can look to Pythagoras who again is Greek and a philosopher. He was the founder of a Religion called Pythagoreanism his teaching basically broke into two trains to thought one being mathematical and science based, the other being Religious and ritualistic. This combined in time to one Metaphysical path.
One has to wonder where the original notion of the “meaning of life” came from when I think on Metaphysics I am taken to two different cultures one is Egyptian the other being Mayan. What is might well is the advancement in “written works” that gave the Greeks’ the credits. Both had well defined path in spirituality and spiritual teachings and rituals. Just were not documented where the masses could readily understand in them. Aristotle was simply maybe the first to put the questions to paper.
We have Pythagoras, , Plato, and Aristotle to thank . We Learn Of Metaphysics from that starting path of their written teachings.
