Soul Searching ? What is it ? Meaning ?

Today I was chatting to someone and he was deep in thought in that place of peace. I was at that opposite place. Mind racing and working through stuff. Nothing big ( well big for the one needing the information ) but not anything personal.


He said I felt very off to him and that I might need to do some “ Soul Searching”. We continued to chat for a bit, then I said maybe I needed some “ soul searching” .

Got me thinking what is “ Soul Searching” ? We have a Soul but that is on a path with us…..so are we doing searching for the Soul or for our racing minds ?


Soul Searching -

A penetrating examination of one’s motives , convictions, and attitudes.
Deep or critical examination of one’s beliefs

Displaying the characteristics of deep or painful self-analysis

The activity of thinking seriously about your feelings and beliefs in order to make a decision or to understand the reasons for your own behavior.

Careful though about your beliefs, attitudes, or actions because you think it is important to behave in an honest and moral way.

Never realized how many ways just saying Soul Searching could open up too….
MORE I guess what I was looking for was DOWN TIME.


What are ye’s thoughts on Soul Searching when one goes into that space or maybe says it where does one get taken to in thought or actions ?

I guess the term Soul Searching really depends on who's request/need it has been asked or suggested. If it has come from someone else, for example from your friend. Do they actually mean that you need to do some soul searching or is it that they have been upset or irritated by your behaviour. Has the upset been so profound that it requires you to get right down into fundamental about why we exist as a person at all?

Or is it that the term has become overused or used out of context? is it just a way of someone telling us that they don't like our behaviour?

I ask this because to 'search one's soul', to my mind, is to make a fundamental comparison between the moral, spiritual purpose of the soul (it's mission); and how we are performing as a human being and host of the soul (our mission). It suggests a kind of 'checking in' with ourselves, to see how we are doing against a certain standard. It suggests that the soul is all knowing, is a perfect example to which we should all aspire.

If there was a direct and open connection between ourselves and our soul (our higher selves)such that there was continuous and fluid communication then there would be no neeed to search it. In fact it arguably suggests that there would be no purpose in the human life mission at all.

Many folk believe (and I'm one of them) that we experience a number of missions (reincarnations) and each of the missions has predetermined lessons that are designed to teach the soul (through the human condition) about things and matters that are required to assist in the souls' development towards perfection.

If that is the case then perhaps the soul, whilst a better measure of good behaviour and thought' than our own limited 'socialised', human, moral code; is not the perfect standard after all. It may also suggest that the expectations of the person who asks us to search our soul may be never be met until the soul itself (through it's own development) is able to meet the persons' expectations.

I am on a soul searching 'mission' atm.
I am learning things about myself I dont like, but at the same time, I catch myself and have managed to rethink my thoughts.
Its gonna take time, but I am gonna do it
